About Coaching and NLP

Coaching aims to stimulate the continuous development of skills and the constant improvement of performance in order to achieve well-being. It is based on values that respect the individual and his environment. The coaching approach assumes that the individual possesses the ability to direct his own existence and realize his own potential but needs a little push and a solid plan that works. You will learn why you are experiencing certain difficulties and how to overcome the obstacles in your path.

The coach is an experienced professional who has undergone real personal development work and is trained in specific techniques. He has a code of ethics. He helps the person find his own solution and how to put it into practice in a concrete way. The coach’s objective is always the autonomy of the individual and the creation of the conditions for the coachee to develop his own talent.

By defining the objective together, the coach imparts the tools for sustainable change. The coach create an action plan and by committing to it, the coachee achieves the results he has set out. Coaching also means taking into account the secondary benefits (often hidden advantages) of maintaining one’s current non-performing state, and replacing them with new, more adapted behaviors and patterns. At each session, we take stock and readjust what’s needed.
The conditioning to good habits gradually sets in, and so do the results!

Neuro-linguistic programming studies the ways our thoughts affect our behavior. It looks at the ways our brains interpret the signals they receive and how these interpretations affect what we do. It does this through language – the linguistic part of neuro-linguistic programming techniques. By examining how our brains process information, NLP techniques help us to look at our thoughts, feelings and emotions as things that we can control, rather than things that passively happen to us.

The most effective coaching is using Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques that focus on making behavioral changes. The coach will help reveal the unproductive patterns that make the client feel stuck and write new appropriate habits, building new skills and effective strategies.

The process is fast and effective, 5 to 6 sessions are generally sufficient to achieve a goal. Of course, if more in-depth work is required, it can take more sessions.

Therapy is often mainly focus towards the past and the “why” while coaching is mainly focuses towards the present and the future and the “how”. The two are complementary.

People have the capability to get new skills, as they recognize their incompetence and they are motivated to change, they will consciously acquire a skill and use it. After repetitions the skill will be totally integrated as unconscious competence.

Unconscious Incompetence
The client does not have the know-how or have an unexploited potential but is not aware of it. He must recognize his own incompetence and the value of a new skill

Conscious Incompetence
The client passes from ignorance to knowledge and recognize the incompetence. The coach helps to put in place more appropriate behaviours and new skill

Consicous Competence
The client has gained the new skill and reaches independance. However the skill is still not natural and needs relfexion executing it which costs him concentration and energy

Unconscious Competence
When the new behaviour or skill is repeated enough times, the competence is fully acquired and became a reflex action, the new skill or pattern is fully "installed"
